Chances are, New Year’s resolutions have slipped firmly out of your mind, whether you have given up altogether or decided to take a break for now.

Don’t worry, you’re not alone!

80% of us will have slipped back into our old routine, and any New Year’s resolutions that we decided upon have faded into the distance.

Luckily, I am trying to get you back on track and here’s a freebie to do it too!

I find a weekly schedule beneficial because:

  1. It keeps me focused
  2. It’s better for organising my time – particularly when I am trying to fit in new projects
  3. Writing it down helps it stick in my mind and remember
  4. I can keep track of how I’m doing
  5. It keeps me accountable!

So that is why you need to at least try one!

But, how else can you get yourself back on track? Here are some tips that I find particularly useful!

Reassess Your Goal

If you haven’t managed to reach your goal yet, you may need to ask yourself why? Is it that your goal was not as achievable as you once thought?

I wrote a post on the Importance of Goal Setting, take a look and see if you can reassess and reset your goal to keep you motivated and on track!

Also, ask yourself a few basic questions:

  • Why have I stopped?
  • Was it really achievable?
  • Have I been able to fit it in?
  • Do I want something different now?

All of these will help you realign what you want and keep your eye on the prize.

Stay Accountable

Keeping your goals and failures in your head doesn’t help anyone. Instead, write it down, have it proudly displayed and shout it from the rooftops. You’ll find people ask you about it and it helps keep you more productive.

Forgive Yourself

I set myself the goal of losing my baby weight in the first 6 months since little miss was born.

Have I succeeded? No.

Does this upset me? Yes

However, there is no point in punishing myself because I have been busy integrating two children into my life. I know I am working towards it, it’s just taking a little more time than I planned, but getting upset and punishing myself is a waste of energy that could be used more productively.

Be Optimistic

If you constantly tell yourself that you are never going to reach your goal, you are not going to inspire any confidence in yourself. If you want to achieve something you have to be positive or it is a non-starter.

Find Support

Turning to others can be particularly useful when you are trying to achieve your goals. Whether this is a sounding board, for feedback or simply just to talk to – find your people!

*A great place to start on this is Facebook groups or your local clubs.

How Bad Do You Want It

Ultimately, achieving goals takes dedication! The biggest mistake people make is setting a goal or resolution that they ultimately don’t want, but then beat themselves up when they can’t achieve it.

Ask yourself; “How bad do I want this?” and if the answer is: not very, find a new resolution. If you don’t feel passionate then you will probably find that you will struggle to ever achieve your goal.
