Safety is important so I am about to get real for a second because ICE cards could literally save your life and here’s why.

It’s not nice to think about but accidents can happen and runners in particular, tend to be more at risk for road accidents. Whether it’s listening to music, unsafe crossings or even being forced to run without a footpath runners have to deal with it all, usually in rubbish weather conditions too.

Try as we might to stay safe, unfortunately, it is not always the case and to be honest, sometimes these things happen. The problem is; when we go out running you take the bare minimum, no keys, no wallet and sometimes not even a phone (because let’s be honest they are bulky and throw us off!) BUT this poses a problem. It means we don’t have any identification on our person or medical details that could be useful. Essentially, we become the John or Jane Doe that we see on medical dramas!

There is an easy fix that not many people know about and that is the ICE cards which are handy cards that contain your basic information, emergency contact information and any relevant medical history that can be shoved up a sleeve, or in a bra, or ideally a pocket so that essential emergency services have instant access to your medical information that could save your life.

They are so easy to make but many people just don’t bother so since it is important, I made some ICE cards free printables for you to use and stay safe out there.

Simply print them out, fill them in and either laminate them or cover in sellotape to waterproof (sweatproof) them and you are good to go.

I also decided to make a kid friendly ICE cards so that when you are out and about your child has all the relevant information they need if they get lost or you get separated that they can take to an adult to help you get reunited!

  1. I had no idea “ice cards” was a thing. With not leaving home to far, and having your purse with health cards inside – I think that would be enough. But this is a great idea. Thanks for sharing.

  2. I’ve been trying my best to become a runner and I never thought to carry an ICE card. This is such a great idea.

  3. The in case of emergency cards are essential, especially when you go out running without identification. Such a great idea and thanks for the printables.

  4. I only recently started running again, but because of that I am glad I read this post. ICE cards are super important, and I had completely forgotten about them!

  5. At first I did not get the ICE card thing for runners which makes me more curious about that. Then while reading that is just the time I realized the meaning of it. Definitely agree that we always have it. Just to be sure that there is someone that can be contacted in case of emergency.

  6. This is such a good idea! I’ve never thought of “what if” before, but you’re right! I never bring anything with me on a run, if something happened, nobody would know anything about me. I’m definitely printing myself off one of these I.C.E. cards.

  7. These ICE cards are such a good idea. I know they have them on phones now a days but sometimes good ole fashion paper and pen will do just well. I will definitely be printing out the kids ICE card for my daughter. Thank you so much!!

  8. Nice! I have seen people store ICE in their cell phones, but haven’t seen actual cards like this. I like the idea 🙂 Safety is so crucial when running!

  9. I read a long while ago that you should have an ice card in your front window of your house. Especially if you are elderly. I think everyone should have one as well as put a contact in their phones named ICE and put someone who is your emergancy contact in the listing. Great post

  10. This a great idea. I admit, I never thought to carry one of these. I do jog in the neighborhood, so I’m close to home, but just in case I might print out one.

  11. Thank you for these new information! I haven’t tried it, and definitely I will 🙂 Awesome blog 🙂
