I need an organized home! With the move and renovations, we are in a shambles!

We like to leave things really late in our house so we are in chaos before bumpelina arrives. So when Victoria mentioned this guest post it couldn’t have come at a better time and has been so useful for us! Everyone needs an organized home but as parents it can be difficult to find a system that works and that is sustainable. There are many people who secretly wish they could be more organized and have a neat home. College students who first move from home and have a ton of things they have to put in a small dorm they’re sharing with a roommate, older adults who move to their own apartments, your families that just bought their first house… All of these people need help with an organized home, and we’re here to offer good advice and a few useful tips for decluttering. It doesn’t matter if you live alone or you share your home with somebody, neat home will leave you feeling more relaxed and accomplished.

Living Room

Take a good look at your living room to see what’s the best way to move in order to get to the hallway or the kitchen. If that way is blocked with an armchair, couch, or a coffee table, the natural flow of traffic is interrupted. Make different areas in the living room: one for watching the TV, one for drinking coffee, and one for socializing with friends. Make sure there are enough seats so that nobody has to sit on the floor, and use adjustable tables that can double up as a coffee table if need be. Install some ceiling shelves – they are great for storing things and they won’t take your much-needed space.

Kitchen

Organizing a kitchen is tricky, because there isn’t much furniture there, but there are plenty of smaller things which pile up and make a mess easily. By attaching a simple magazine holder to the inside of a cupboard you will get a useful space for keeping lids of your pots and pans in order. Use a lazy Susan to keep items which are sticky and spill easily, like your honey jar. You can easily take lazy Susan out of your cabinet and clean it, but cleaning the cabinet itself is always a nightmare. Speaking of cabinets, you can use tension rods to create dividers in them which will allow you to place baking pans and cutting boards more easily.  One more thing – get rid of the ‘junk drawer’ or at least make it more organized with a drawer organizer which will allow you to group similar things together.

Bedroom

Your bedroom should be an oasis of peace you return to after a stressful day, but unfortunately it often ends up as covered with clothes you took off or took out of the closet to try it on. Laundry that needs to be done, books you’re thinking about reading before going to bed, boxes of shoes you’ve tucked under the bed… Bedrooms can be messy. Add some built-in shelves to help you keep the order, and pick an ottoman that can also be used for storing things. Place the ottoman at the foot of the bed and keep your purses or your spare sheets in there.

Bathroom

As we get older, we realize that our bathrooms are filled with different bottles and things for hygiene that we never thought we’d use. Towels, makeup, hairdryer and straightener, linen, and toiletries are just some of the things that can be found in any bathroom. Take a good look at all your shampoos, lotions, crèmes, and makeup and toss anything that’s old and that you haven’t used in a while. Attach several self-adhesive cups with flat backs to the inside of your medicine cabinet and use them for storing toothbrushes, combs, toothpaste, and makeup brushes. Also, mason jars attached to rustic wooden board look stylish and make a great storage space.

Store The Unnecessary Things

Now that you’ve gotten rid of all the clutter, what can you do with it? Throwing it away isn’t always an option, but sometimes you just don’t have enough room in a house for all the things. Getting a storage unit is a good solution because you can always go back and take out things when you need them, and they won’t be taking up much of your garage or pantry space at home. You can always opt for practical mobile self storage services where you’ll have professional help with both packing and relocating your things to a storage unit. When you feel like it’s time for redecorating, simply go to your storage unit and take your things back.

We all wish we could be living in a neat and organized home, but sometimes we just don’t know where to begin. If you make an effort and organize your home, you will realize just how much space there is and you’ll spend less time cleaning up. Not just that, but you’ll be more likely to find a thing you’re looking for much faster than before because you won’t have to go through all the clutter.

We all want an organized home and this room by room, step by step guide is a fantastic guest post that has definitely helped me and can help you too!
