It’s time for the Oh My Blog! interview series so let’s introduce the March Mums, after all it’s almost Mother’s Day!

Oh My Blog is a monthly interview series, where fellow bloggers come together to answer a series of questions on a specific theme. This is a chance to get acquainted with a whole range of bloggers, some of whom you may not have heard of before, and learn a little more about them!

In case you missed it, here’s Kimberly from February’s post on LOVE

If you want to meet and learn about MY mother then check out my March mums post on Neon Rainbow Blog

This month, the theme is Mums (because it’s Mother’s Day soon!) and we’re getting to know Beth and her mum from A Blonde and a Baby.

Introduce us to your mum. What’s her name? What does she do? Reveal her age if you dare!

My lovely mum is called Lyn (with a ‘y’ and one ‘n’ controversially!) She is self employed and has always been an inspiration to me for being a business woman as well as juggling three children. I will say she is in her 50s… I don’t dare say an exact age!

What’s the one thing your mum always used to say to you?

You know how when you’re young you think your parents are so annoying, then you become a mum and you become just as annoying to your children. Well the thing my mum always used to say was in reply to me saying “Mum, I’m bored.” She would always reply “I’m Mum, how do you do!” I now say this to Lily!

Someone’s playing your mum in a film. Who is it and why?

Probably someone like Emma Thompson. I think there’s something so warm about her, and very intelligent. I’d say they are two perfect words to describe my mum.

She’s won the lottery. What’s the first thing your mum buys for herself?

An amazing holiday somewhere luxurious, and she would take all of us with her!

What embarrassing story about you does she always tell when you meet new people?

Probably the one where I managed to insult an elderly woman in the CO-OP when I was about 3, by asking my mum “Why does that lady have a beard?” very loudly, pointing at her whiskers!

What are your plans for Mother’s Day this year?

It’s been a tough year or so for my mum, so I want to treat her this Mother’s Day with more than just a bunch of flowers. I think I will book up somewhere for lunch or afternoon tea.

What’s her favourite TV show at the moment?

She’s started liking those police shows, like Traffic Cops! No idea why! She is my junk TV ally as well, and loves a bit of X Factor and I’m A Celebrity when they’re on.

What’s the biggest or most important thing that your mum inspired you to do?

Whenever I have needed to make any choices in life my mum has given me one piece of advice: Do what feels right. In this way she has always inspired me to follow my heart. I’m glad I have as there have been some risky decisions, but they have paid off.

Your round at the bar! What’s your mum drinking?

My mum doesn’t drink so for her it’s likely to just be a diet coke!

What’s the biggest difference between you and your mum?

I’m a very girly girl, my mum is more into sport. I may never go to watch a football match with her, but she always still takes an interest in my more girly likes and hobbies. We are very different in some ways, but very similar in others.

Most important question of the lot. What is your mum’s stance on 50 Shades of Grey? Does she love it? Hate it? Not even know what it is?

I know some people talk to their mums about sex and there’s no boundaries, but me and my mum definitely have boundaries! As far as she’s concerned I am a total virgin… except that one time that me and my hubby made Lily!

What’s your favourite memory of your mum?

When I graduated from university. My mum, dad and older brother all came up to watch me graduate. My dad and brother then headed home but my mum and me stayed in a Premiere Inn and had a girls night. We went to dinner, got back to the hotel and watched some TV and had a chat before getting an early night. It was just really nice to spend some quality time together.

What do you think your mum was like as a kid?

A bit of a rebel! I know that she was a bit naughty at school and still has a wicked sense of humour. I think it got her into trouble sometimes as a kid, not that she cared too much!

Cast your mind back a bit; what was the thing you did as a child or teenager that made your mum the angriest she has ever been with you?

Boys. Both my parents despaired at me when it came to my choice of boyfriends as a teenager. I’ve got to say looking back I did gravitate towards the boys who were a parents worst nightmare. They couldn’t tell me though, eventually I worked it out for myself. They were actually very patient with me, I don’t know if I would be so good if Lily bought a boy home like I did.

Finally, what’s the BEST piece of advice your mum ever gave to you?

When having an argument with a partner, if the thing that you are arguing about isn’t going to be important in a week’s time, or even a month’s time- is it really worth the argument? She doesn’t mean this in a “be a pushover” way. But more she knows that I can be quick to snap at my husband, and not to constantly pick fights that aren’t needed.

  1. This was such a cool interview! and there are some great advice. Kids now a days are always bored lol… My nephew for instance we all know when he’s bored because his faces shows it so we try making funny faces to make him laugh lol…

  2. Great interview and lots of great advice. How amazing is it that our mum’s know us so well even after we become mum’s ourselves!?

  3. Such a fun post. The comment about being bored reminded me of my mom. When my siblings and I were younger we would complain to my mom about being bored. She would always say, “I’m not your entertainment committee.” It would drive us crazy, but I get it now.

  4. This is so cool! We just did a mom blogger interview as well. Isn’t is great to connect with other moms and learn their story? It makes us know we are not alone in our motherhood journey. I really like your questions. They are very interesting. Kimberly gives some good advice on what she learned from her mom.

  8. What a fun idea for mothers day. I love reading her answers to the questions. I should answer some on my own too. It might be difficult to come up with a reply to a few of the questions.

  9. This interview definitely made me miss my mom. I think it’s a lovely idea, this is great way to get to know bloggers more. I enjoyed the interview, without a doubt.
