Taking care of myself is something I need to work on! I never attempt make-up (or most of the time doing my hair) because it’s a futile effort that takes too much time. And, as a mother, I always feel like if I have a spare moment, there are other things I could be doing.
But that doesn’t mean I don’t wish to look like some of the absolute beauts who seem to have flawless hair and makeup on the playground or at kids’ activity days, or even if I bump into them in the street.
That’s why, when Audrey approached me about ways I could spruce myself up without taking a huge chunk of my day or morning, I immediately said yes. You can pick and choose what you want to do from the list, but for busy mums, something is better than nothing am I right?!
Stand back mummy friends, we’re about to get schooled in the art of taking care of ourselves as well as our little humans, at. the. same. time. Busy mums on fleek.
A Bit About Audrey
Audrey Taylor was born in San Francisco, and moved to Adelaide at the age of five. She’s a marketer, researcher and social media manager, but has put all that on hold to be a full-time mummy of a cheerful two-year-old. Having graduated from Queensford college and worked in a couple of marketing agencies across Australia, she’s eager to learn more about business and share her experiences with others. She’s traveled across Europe and loves: home decor, fashion, travel, music and old movies.

As a busy mom, I’m always on the go and usually have like five minutes a day for myself. That is why most of the time I rely on simple and quick beauty hacks that make me feel and look great while I still manage to balance and complete all the daily tasks. Here are some awesome tips that will make you look all dolled up in no time!
BB & CC Creams Instead of Foundation
Okay, let’s face it, we all need to put a bit of color on our faces to cover all the sleepless nights and lack of sleep in general. When it comes to putting on heavy makeup, well, forget about it, you need something quick and good for your skin such as BB and CC creams. They are essentially, creams with a light foundation in so that you can, not only will you cover all the marks of being a busy mom but also have multiple skincare benefits.
Whether you choose a BB cream or CC cream it doesn’t matter because it always comes down to a personal preference. Opt for the one the suits you better and you will be happy with how quickly you can have a neat coverage while keeping skin care under control. Without the need for foundation, powder and primer!
Make Your Brows Thicker
Fill in your brows with short strikes using a brush and an eyeshadow (a shade lighter than your brows). Even if you don’t have a special eyebrow kit or if you haven’t mastered the eyebrow pencil application yet you can still deal with them quickly without it. You don’t really have to shape them all the way (you’re not going on a red carpet obviously) but try to fill them in to look more natural and thicker. Sometimes I skip the mascara (my lashes require a bit of work) but fill in the brows and still get the ‘au naturel’ look I love and it definitely changes the look of your face.
Don’t Skip the Blush
Add a touch of blush to your cheeks to make your face look healthy and natural. It takes just a second and does wonders for your look. Swipe the brush over your eyelids after applying a blush or a bronzer on the cheek line to get the “I’ve even had time to put on eyeshadow” look! Finish the look with a touch of lip-gloss or a simple rose tinted lip balm and voila!
Thick Dreamy Lashes
When it comes to putting on mascara, always wiggle the brush, and go all the way from the roots to the end. It is very important to buy a quality mascara to speed up the process of putting it on!
The best alternative to mascara is putting on false eyelashes, but unless you’ve mastered the technique that takes a little more time, or you could have eyelash extension treatments. Some moms opt for a bit of time investment now, to save it later, by attending eyelash extension school, which is great because they can do DIY lash extensions and skip applying, (and taking off) mascara which means you always look fresh. But, the best option by far is having a friend who finished makeup school that can do your lash extensions, wink, wink!
Taking off Makeup in No Time
Taking off makeup is the biggest drag for us busy moms. We’ve spent time putting it on, now we have to spend time taking it off.
But luckily there is a miraculous thing that can make it quick and easy – and my friends it is called micellar water! It takes off everything in no time and cleans your skin perfectly without damaging it or causing irritations, and It takes off mascara better than soap and water! If you have sensitive skin or try to avoid cosmetic products, using coconut oil is a great alternative for removing makeup.
Cleanse in the Shower
Multitasking is something us moms are great at. So, if you want to keep up with your cleansing routine, opt for products that can clean, hydrate and exfoliate at once, that way you can do while taking a shower and save time! If your skin is sensitive there are also many products designed to calm problematic skin. Also, don’t forget to install a small mirror in the shower (or take one in with you) so you can make sure you’re not missing a spot.
These simple beauty tips are some of the ways you can speed up your makeup routine and feel your best, without wasting a ton of time. Simply adjust them to your lifestyle, and even if you do just one of them, you’ll feel a lot more taken care of!
