Wine, Birthdays, Hawaii and a very unexpected P.B
Name: Kenley 10k
Where: Kenley Aerodrome, Surrey
Distance: You guessed it – 10K
Organiser: MCC Promotions
My Time: 50:58 – New P.B
Before I do the usual.. blah blah this is how it was, you need a bit of backstory for this run!
The night before we decided to go out (not a regular habit I make for events but it was a special occasion!) and we had a fab night out at an “Around the world” themed fancy dress birthday party – we went as Hawaii (Happy Birthday Nic!!). I wasn’t going to drink (haha) ok so I was only going to have a couple, but… that didn’t happen, I had far too much, which made for a great evening!!! here we are merrily enjoying our night out!
The downside is… this is what a late night of drinking does to a person when they have to get up at 6:30am for a running event – I could not handle living at that moment and I did not feel well!
So if I am honest it started off on the wrong foot! and then things got worse….
The Bad
It was cold – I mean really cold and very windy, the aerodrome is very open to the elements and mother nature was not playing ball (at all)- it also started raining a little halfway through (yay 0_0)
There also weren’t as many people as last year (I did it last year too!) which was a bit disappointing, especially since we had made the effort :p (some people are just too clever to come out in the freezing weather to run first thing on a Sunday morning – how dare they!)
It wasn’t all bad though…
The Good
Somehow against all of the odds (mostly wine!) I managed to get a P.B and it really did make it all worth it! I really struggled with the run and my legs were very tired (dehydration from the wine) so I really dug deep for this one and I was rewarded!
Dad did a P.B too and now he’s catching me up (must train harder) but he wasn’t thrilled about the weather! We did get race bling though, so that is always a plus for the hard work! :p
The Kenley 10k was well organised and thank you to the volunteers and supporters who stood and cheered regardless of the weather!! (hats off to you freezing souls!) and one of the other main highlights (for me) was the course itself, although not very scenic, it is beautifully flat! and with it being laps I love to be able to chill out and not really pay attention to what’s going on around me (something I couldn’t do in the Valentine’s Day 10k a couple of weeks ago)
Although I wouldn’t advocate for heavy drinking and lack of sleep the night before an event, I was pleasantly surprised and ecstatic that I managed to get a P.B regardless!
My Next Target
I said in my Valentine’s Day 10k recap that my new target would be sub 50 mins. I didn’t reach that this time but I did get the P.B and I am very happy so hopefully I can aim to get under the 50 minutes next time!
what was the last event you did? what’s your P.B ? Have you run at Kenley?

Wish to visit there. I seems interesting.
I really liked the article you have written above, awaited the next article, thanks
wow I can’t function the next day after drinking never mind do this…congrats
Congratulations on this wonderful PR! Way to Go!
Wow. That’s really amazing. I can’t function on a normal day with a hangover (so haven’t really drunk since 2011 pre-children!) Let alone doing a 10k. Getting a personal best is awesome. Well done you! 🙂
Ooooo we couldn’t go out drinking the night before a big race! Well done for completing it!
Wow, you ran well considering you were hungover! I can barely function after a night on the drink, never mind running a 10k! Well done on getting your personal best too.
Well done on your new PB, I wish I liked running, but I am just not built for it x
I am not a runner so I have no idea what P.B means. It took me ages to figure it out (personal best, right?)
Well done for doing your run, especially after a night out. I think I would have got up, looked at the weather and gone back to bed. Well done for still running. You are braver than me.
Well done to you on completing the 10K and getting a personal best too. You did fab!
You are one dedicated lady! I’m glad you had a fab night out, I can barely get up the next day just to make myself breakfast after a night out, never mind running a 10 K! You’re a super woman in my eyes! Congrats on your PB 🙂 xxx
aw wow well done you not only for the run but actually getting up that early after the night before you have more stamina than me
I am so impressed 10K on a hangover!! Well done you and that you got a personal best. Its great you do it with your dad :). Lovely picture of you with your OH too xx
Well done with your new P.B. I don’t run or do any exercise myself but I do know how hard it can be to beat something and improve, ie, my monthly page views and it is a great feeling when we hit a p.b.

omg! how on earth did you manage a 10k with a hangover lmao I can barely manage normal life with a hangover lmao Super woman!
Well done you I wouldn’t have been able to even get out of bed after a good night out. You managed to do it and get a PB
Oh my goodness – you did so well. I can barely run for a bus! Congratulations. Kaz x
For someone who might have had a hangover you did pretty well and well done for sticking with it and not dropping out. I have not run in forever and a day
Well done to you and your dad for getting the medal and you managing it despite your hangover. When is your next marathon?
Well done to you, in spite having a little bit of a hang-over and the cold, you still made it! 🙂 x
Well done, you must be so pleased to get a personal best especially after a bad start (too much wine)
Well done on running the 10k!
Shame about the weather being so cold and windy!
