The Asics Gel Nimbus 16’s were the trainers I bought myself when I signed up for my first half marathon.
After training on an old pair for a while I decided that my first race deserved a new pair of trainers.
They were quite new at the time and so were expensive (relative to previous pairs I had bought).
They were a little disappointing on durability and I now use them for indoor training at the gym (I have to get my money’s worth) Here is how I got on with them in more detail:
Name: Asics Gel Nimbus 16
Price: £120
Bought from: Wiggle
Colour: Purple/Lime
Special Features:
- Forefoot and Rearfoot cusioning
- Impact guidance system (to help enhance your foots’ natural gait)
Stability: Good
Style: Ok
Notes:
Pros:
The cushioning on these make them very comfortable which is perfect for beginners who are building up time on their feet
They are quite tame colour wise and the style is quite nice.
I have found they are a great fit, regardless of how much they are worn they don’t “give” too much which is great support-wise.
Cons:
They haven’t lasted very long – I trained for 2 months and ran a half marathon on them and the soles have almost completely lost their grip and worn down (which is unusual for me, my trainers usually last a lot longer) – for the price they aren’t very durable which is very disappointing as they are one of the most expensive pairs I have bought
Overall Rating:
3 out of 5 stars
Regardless of features and the comfort they are not very cost effective and haven’t lasted very long at all, which for the price is disappointing, I doubt they would see an amateur marathon runner through training and the event.
