avoid being a grown upLets be honest, a lot of the time, being a grown up sucks!

Sometimes you just need to stop being Adult-y for the day or the afternoon and get some downtime!

So here are some ways to avoid the stress and avoid being a grown up – even for a few minutes!

1. Swing on the swings – or go to the park

Have a go on the swings – see how high you can go, slide down the side and climb back up – why not!

2. Have a duvet day

Take a day off, snuggle in your PJ’s and have no where to be! that’s the best feeling is having no commitments for the day.
If you can’t take a whole day then opt for a half day and have a lie in before work!
If you still have the kids then make a fort! (I’ve mentioned this before in my “Fun Frugal Kids Activities” post.) – making forts are one of my favourite past times.

3. Make Something

Do something crafty! – making something is very therapeutic! you could even learn a new skill like knitting or sewing.

4. Space Hoppers or skipping

I love skipping ropes and space hoppers – I think they are more hilarious as a grown up than a child.
If you have kids then steal theirs while they aren’t looking!
If not they are pretty inexpensive – get a couple and you can have races!! You don’t need kids to justify this purchase!

5. Cut the screen time!

If you are usually staring at a screen all day then put all devices away and read a book! – Put your emails on divert and sit down for a quiet cuppa!

6. Binge Watch Some TV

The opposite to cutting the screen time but if you have a long commute or do lots of walking around then sitting down and vegging for an hour or so is a welcome change!

7.  Get up early and get out

For some of you, starting the day bright and early is a great way to reconnect with your inner child! why not go out for a walk, run or cycle and get your exercise in straight away and just enjoy nature!

8.  Start Jamming

Pop some music on and have a boogie – This is a great way to take a few minutes if you don’t have time to take an hour etc. Why not work on your funky dance moves for your next dance off – it’s bound to happen some time!

9. Colouring books

These are popular at the moment and I have one – they are more intricate than a child’s’ one but just as fun! Sometimes it is great to just mindlessly do something that is seperate from everyday life!

10. Jump in the bath with your clothes on!

I love doing this every once in a while – just jump in and have a laugh – get the kids in too! have a little swim session, clothes and all! who cares!!
*Don’t forget to take your watch off!*

Is there anyway you like to pretend you’re not an adult or do you do non- adulty type things? let me know in the comments 🙂

  1. Hi Charlotte! I’ve previously commented but saw your post on #mg and had to let you know I released my inner child for a couple of hours today colouring in. I was given a colouring book and pencils for Christmas and I love it. I’m going to try some more of your suggestions! Maybe a swing tomorrow when I take my grandson to the park.

  2. I tried to pretend I wasn’t an adult by not paying my bills… But then everybody’s panties were in a knot and I kept getting phone call after phone call… Not fun!

But seriously, I do my best not to take life seriously especially when playing with the kiddos. It can be hard at times especially with these dang smart phones going off every two seconds!

    Love the article.

  3. All of those sound really fun–except the last one. I am sorry, but wet clothes drive me insane, so it would be the opposite of relaxing for me. But to each their own. I’m sure my kids would get a giggle out of it–but still not going to happen, haha.

    • haha my mum can’t understand it either :p I just think it’s hilarious – hmm maybe because she hates it :p Merry Christmas Thanks for commenting xx

  4. I love going on the swings and wish they made slides for grown ups! The ones in most playgrounds are not suitable for the adult bottom. Most unfair. Lovely photos too! 🙂

  5. This is so funny, especially with you on the spring horse!! I bet you had fun putting this together! Who was taking your photos? Do you have an Instagram Husband? LOL Did you read that?

But you are right, I have a quote on one of my posts
” Becoming an adult was the dumbest things I’ve ever done.”

Although I guess that would mean that I wouldn’t have my husband or kids, someday’s it would be so nice to have someone else make all the hard decisions!!!

    • haha the instagram husband was hilarious – My best friend at the time was taking them as I struggled to get back out (because pictures are better than helping obviously) I completely agree – I feel like we have kids and then we forget that it’s ok to be silly – I love it when my parents are 🙂 Have a very merry Christmas xx

  6. I think we all have a little child inside right? I love to do some childish things with my girls and Nick. We love having fun and laugh. I think it is good to have some moments to not take thinks too seriously! It is very good for your health when you laugh!! 😉 Thanks for sharing this at #KCACOLS

  7. Hi Charlotte! Congratulations! Your post was in my top two picks for this week’s #OvertheMoon link up. I loved your post and it reminded me of how I feel when I’m with my grandson each week. Don’t forget to link up next week and get your Featured Post badge. Have a great weekend!

  8. Hi Charlotte we should have fun like children more often. I love spending Tuesdays with my grandson Ethan who is 18 months. I’m loving discovering his world, how fearless he is, how happy he is with little things it is just wonderful. Thanks for sharing some fun ideas with us at #OvertheMoon linkup I will be trying some of them for sure. See you next week!

  9. I love your post! I remember building forts when I was little…. so much fun. My favourite thing is to join in with my daughters make believe games. Not only do we get some great time together, but I get to forget about being a grown up for a little bit too. Inspiring quote #candidcuddles

  10. What fun ideas! The great thing about having kids is that you can do all of these crazy & fun things & pretend you are little yourself. I’ve never jumped in the bath fully clothed – good tip on taking off the watch lol Great quote, it fits your post perfectly. x

  11. Lovely list! I also love doing the same as what my kids love doing, it actually make me feel like a kid again, just awesome! I agree, being too serious can sometimes make you feel old, lol #candidcuddles

  12. This is why I loved having a child young… just as I turned 19 and people started telling me I had to be an adult, I had a baby and could relive childhood all over again! #KCACOLS

  13. Skipping is so much more fun as an adult! Me and my daughter (not so much now she is older totes embarrassing) used to love putting on the Disney princess soundtrack and try to waltz and dance around the kitchen and/or have a little dance off too. I still do it to show her I am still fun although she seem to think otherwise! #KCACOLS

  14. Hi Charlotte, it’s funny how when we’re a child, being an adult seems so great… Until we become adults! Connecting with our childish side every once in a while makes a refreshing break from being an adult.

Those springy rocker things in playgrounds are irresistible aren’t they. No longer having a child of playground age, I can no longer justify hanging round them, but when they were younger, I’d have a go too.

Getting up and out early is my favourite way of staring the day, you can’t beat it for an energy boost.

I’ve asked for a colouring book this Christmas, just got to wait and see if I’ve been good enough. I do draw the line at climbing in the bath fully clothed though! Maybe in the summer, but now it is far too cold and our central heating is not working (thank goodness we have a wood burner!).

    xx

    • haha you’ll have to borrow a friends child to get back in that playground debbie!! I couldn’t wait to grow up and now all i want to do is find neverland :p ! xx
